About This Product
One kit, six regional festivals, one fixed date. Makar Sankranti is the rare Hindu festival that every Indian community observes under its own name: Pongal in Tamil Nadu, Uttarayan in Gujarat, Magh Bihu in Assam, Khichdi in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, and Sankranti across Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. For an importer, that means one SKU that sells to the whole diaspora aisle, not one regional segment.
The kit is built around the two ingredients every version of the festival shares: sesame and jaggery. Black and white til and a block of gur are packed separately, so households can make til-gul, til laddoo or ellu bella in their own regional style. Whole turmeric roots, not powder, are included because Tamil households tie the fresh haldi plant around the Pongal pot, and the root is what travels. Akshat, moli, cotton wicks, four clay diyas and a mini brass bell complete the puja itself. Everything ships in Chaitanya's reusable heirloom metal box.
Sankranti marks the Sun's entry into Makara, the start of Uttarayana, the Sun's northward journey. Because it follows the solar calendar, it falls on 14 or 15 January every year. That makes it the most predictable festival for stock planning: no lunar-calendar surprises, and a clean January sales window straight after the Diwali season.
The gifting angle is strong. Til-gul exchange is the centrepiece of Maharashtrian Sankranti, and the metal box turns a samagri purchase into a gift families hand to neighbours and relatives.
