Retailers are actively looking for alternatives. This kit is one that comes from a living Indian tradition with its own materials. The Sacred Smudge Kit holds the three materials Indian households use to clear and freshen a space. Loban, frankincense resin from the Boswellia tree, is burnt on charcoal or a heated plate and gives a dense, resinous smoke. Pure camphor burns with a bright, clean flame and a sharp, cooling scent. Vetiver roots, called khus in Hindi, bring an earthy, green base and can be burnt, bundled or simply left in a bowl. Each sits in a labelled sealed pouch in a copper tin with a brass dhuni and rising smoke on the lid, with no deity imagery. For the buyer, the value is a clear replacement story.
