About This Product

The Malayali New Year where the first thing you see determines your year — and the mirror in the kit is that first sight. Vishu (Medam 1, April) is Kerala’s New Year, centred on the Vishukani — an arrangement of auspicious items that the family views first thing in the morning. The items seen at Vishukani set the tone for the year. The Aranmula Kannadi-style mirror is the most significant item: the viewer sees their own reflection among the auspicious arrangement, symbolising that they themselves are included in the year’s blessings. Twelve items for the complete Vishukani arrangement: the symbolic mirror, brass nilavilakku (Kerala’s traditional standing lamp), kasavu-pattern yellow cloth (referencing Kerala’s gold-bordered white cloth), sandalwood essential oil, jasmine dhoop, and chandan paste. The arrangement is visual — it must look abundant and auspicious. The Malayali diaspora (Gulf countries, US, UK, Singapore) observes Vishu with particular care. For importers serving Kerala communities, this is a niche with zero competition and high emotional value. Available for private label with custom packaging. MOQ on request.
