Choosing Your First Kit Set

If you have read this far, you are ready. Here is where to start.

Start with a Foundation (daily aarti) kit — use it consistently for 1-2 months. Then add one festival kit for the next major festival. The progression: Foundation daily, then first festival kit, then Satyanarayan monthly, then full calendar coverage. A well-used basic kit is better than an unused premium one.

Eleven chapters. The vocabulary of ritual kits. The household daily kit as foundation. Ganesh Chaturthi. Navratri. Diwali. Satyanarayan puja. Grihapravesh. Wedding. Havan. Samskaras. And Chaitanya's assembly discipline.

This chapter is the practice. Not another set of concepts — a decision tree. Five questions. Your answers assemble your first (or upgraded) kit inventory — the specific set of kits that will support your household's ritual practice across the coming year and beyond.

If this is the only page you read, this is the page that turns eleven chapters of reading into a physically-assembled ritual practice.

Question 1 · What is your household's current ritual practice level?

A · No formal daily practice. The mandir may exist but daily aarti is inconsistent.

B · Basic daily practice. Morning aarti maintained most days. Some festival observance.

C · Regular daily + festival practice. Daily aarti + major festivals observed with elaboration.

D · Serious devotional. Daily morning and evening aarti + full festival calendar + samskara-adjacent practice.

Question 2 · What specific ceremony is driving this kit acquisition?

A · Establishing daily practice for the first time.

B · Preparing for a specific upcoming festival (Diwali, Navratri, Ganesh Chaturthi).

C · Preparing for a specific samskara (grihapravesh, wedding, namkaran, upanayan).

D · Building a general kit library for ongoing use.

E · Upgrading current kit tier as devotional practice deepens.

Question 3 · What is your household's deity focus?

A · Vishnu / Krishna / Rama.

B · Shiva / Rudra.

C · Devi / Lakshmi / Durga.

D · Ganesha primary.

E · General household / multi-deity.

Question 4 · How fully will you equip the year’s kits?

A · Essentials only across the year — Signature tier, essentials only.

B · Primary kits across the year — Heritage tier for primary kits, Signature for peripherals.

C · Extended observance across the year — Heritage default with Royal for major samskaras.

D · Full classical observance across the year — Royal tier throughout.

Question 5 · What household transitions are upcoming?

A · No major transitions. Daily practice + festival observance only.

B · Child expected or recently arrived — namkaran, first-samskaras.

C · Wedding in the household (upcoming or new marriage).

D · New home entry (grihapravesh upcoming).

E · Multiple transitions — several samskaras across the year.

Your curated first kit set

Based on your answers, three tiers of overall kit strategy — Foundation, Regular, and Complete.

Foundation Set — for A/B on Q1, no immediate samskara

Priority: establish daily practice with the Signature Daily Kit.

Immediate acquisition:

  • Signature Daily Kit — see Ch 2
  • Small brass Ganesha murti — always installed first

Add during the year for first-time festival observance:

  • Signature Diwali Kit (added to the daily kit) — see Ch 5
  • Optional: Signature Ganesh Chaturthi Kit (added to the daily kit) — see Ch 3

This is the household's initial year of establishing tradition-aware practice. The daily practice is the foundation; festival kits arrive as the calendar year progresses.

Regular Set — for B/C on Q1, with festival intent

Priority: full-festival calendar at Heritage tier.

Immediate acquisition:

  • Heritage Daily Kit — see Ch 2
  • Small Heritage-quality Ganesha + household deity murti

Festival kits across the year:

  • Heritage Ganesh Chaturthi Kit (added to the daily kit)
  • Heritage Navratri Kit (added to the daily kit)
  • Heritage Diwali Kit (added to the daily kit)

Optional monthly:

  • Signature Satyanarayan Kit — monthly if household observes

Optional havan (annual Griha-Shanti):

  • Signature Havan Kit — for annual observance

This is the household with established devotional practice observing the full festival calendar at Heritage quality.

Complete Set — for C/D on Q1, with samskara events

Priority: full ritual practice + specific samskara ceremonies.

Immediate acquisition:

  • Royal Daily Kit or Heritage upgrading to Royal — see Ch 2
  • Panchaloha or premium household deity murtis

Festival kits at Royal:

  • Royal Ganesh Chaturthi Kit (added to the daily kit)
  • Royal Navratri Kit (added to the daily kit)
  • Royal Diwali Kit (added to the daily kit)

Samskara kits as they arise:

  • Grihapravesh Kit (if applicable) at Royal
  • Wedding Kit (if applicable) at Royal
  • Namkaran, upanayan (if applicable) at Heritage or Royal

Monthly Satyanarayan:

  • Heritage Satyanarayan Kit — monthly for Purnima observance, or seasonally

Complete Havan Kit:

  • Royal Havan Kit for annual and samskara use

This is the serious devotional household with substantial ritual practice and specific samskara events. Wedding costs are separate substantial addition.

What you skip in year one

Do not acquire kits for ceremonies you will not conduct. A household that will not do Navratri akhand does not need a Navratri kit's akhand infrastructure. Match kit acquisition to actual planned observance.

Do not upgrade all tiers simultaneously. Progressive upgrade — start with Signature Daily; upgrade to Heritage as practice deepens; add Royal for the specific kits that matter most (typically the samskara-adjacent).

Do not commit to Royal-tier daily kit prematurely. A2 ghee is expensive — its daily use may exceed household budget. Reserve Royal-tier daily kit for households with substantial budget and established serious devotional practice.

Do not skip samskara kits when needed. When grihapravesh, wedding, or major samskara is upcoming, the appropriate kit is not optional. Cut back on daily-kit tier if needed to fund the samskara.

Do not buy pre-packaged mass-market kits. The tier-quality difference between mass-market and Chaitanya Signature is substantial (see Ch 11 sidebar). If Chaitanya Signature is not affordable, assemble components individually from proper sources rather than buying mass-market kits.

What comes next in the Grantha

This grantha is Volume 7 of nine. If you have read this far, the two volumes ahead are already yours in outline:

  • Volume 8 · Festival Calendar — Month by month through the sacred year
  • Volume 9 · Home Ritual — Morning aarti, sandhya, meal blessing, threshold

Each shipping in sequence. Each free. Each delivered as a beautifully-designed PDF the day it ships.

The single sentence that closes this grantha

You are not buying kits. You are inheriting a two-thousand-year-old classical tradition of specific ceremonies with specific material inventories — each kit the tradition's own compact assembly of what the moment requires, honestly compounded and ceremonially deployed — and this grantha's work has only been to help you assemble those kits properly so the tradition can happen in your household in the same completeness the tradition has always held.

Assemble your first kit.
